Stormy Down Recognition Plaque Parade

Dafydd attending a parade in RAF Stormy Down with the Air Cadets.

Hi! I'm Dafydd, I am a year 12 student in Bryntirion Comprehensive School and an active member in Air Cadets. I have a keen interest in history, particularly the military and am currently participating in many events with the Cadets.

On the 2nd of July, I took part in a parade to remember and recognise an old local air base, RAF Stormy Down. There were roughly 400 people, ranging from RAF airmen to Politicians, like our First Minister Carwyn Jones. We all came together for the grand unveiling of a plaque, which was made to recognise the important service of RAF Stormy Down in World War Two.

To remember this in the best way we could, we held a service and parade to make the unveiling official, the Battle of Britain Memorial Flight and Red Arrows paying their respects with a fly past afterwards.

Thank you for visiting our Blog. This page will document the work we do throughout the year as part of the Wartime Bridgend Heritage Walkway project.

We are pupils from the History Club in Bryntirion Comprehensive. Throughout the year we will be working with Bridgend Town Council to learn how to record Oral Histories so that we can collect people's stories from the war. We will be holding our first Community Drop In on July 15th 11-2pm at Carnegie House, Wyndham Street, Bridgend.

This weekend we ran two stalls at the Wartime Bridgend event in Bridgend. Here are some of us on the Rationing stall with Winston Churchill!

And here is Ffion and Rosie with Churchill and Field Marshall Montgomery!
